Rapsody — A Full Circle Moment

In March 2020, DJ Sophia Rocks was presented with an opportunity: to DJ and open for Rapsody on her A Black Woman Created This Tour. The final stop of the tour was scheduled to take place in Rapsody’s home state of North Carolina, and Sophia was preparing to open for the artist.

In March 2020, DJ Sophia Rocks was invited to DJ and open for Rapsody on her A Black Woman Created This Tour, with the final stop scheduled in Rapsody’s home state of North Carolina. Just days before the show, COVID-19 forced all live events to shut down, pausing what would have been a major moment early in Sophia’s career.

Five years later, that moment came full circle. In 2025, Sophia finally opened and DJed for Rapsody at Club Racket in New York City during a special event celebrating the one-year anniversary of Rapsody’s album Please Don’t Cry. The two met in person for the first time, spending time together backstage before the show, sharing laughs, conversation, and genuine connection.

When Sophia took the stage, it wasn’t just a performance it was the continuation of a story years in the making. Rapsody continues to support Sophia and follow her journey, making this moment a powerful example of women supporting women across generations in music. Thank you to Rapsody for the continued support, trust, and for creating space that uplifts the next generation of women in music.

That weekend never came.

As COVID-19 rapidly escalated, the governor of North Carolina shut down all live events in the
interest of public safety, bringing the tour to an abrupt halt. What was meant to be a powerful
moment of connection between a rising young DJ and a respected lyricist was paused indefinitely. Still, the impression was made. Rapsody had already taken notice of Sophia’s talent, inviting her into that space when Sophia was just 12 years old.

Five years later, that moment came full circle.

In 2025, Sophia was given the opportunity once again to open and DJ for Rapsody, this time at Club Racket in New York City. The event was aimed at celebrating the one-year anniversary of Rapsody’s album Please Don’t Cry. After years of mutual respect from afar, the two finally met in person. Before the show, they spent time together backstage laughing, talking, and genuinely connecting. Rapsody gave Sophia her flowers, offering a shout-out and showing real support before the music even started.

When Sophia stepped on stage that night, it wasn’t just another performance. It was the continuation of a story that began years earlier and was finally able to breathe. Rapsody continues to support Sophia, following her journey and celebrating her growth. What makes the moment especially meaningful is the shared space they occupy as women in music one as a celebrated artist, the other as a DJ both representing excellence, longevity, and the importance of lifting the next generation.

This was more than a booking. It was a reminder that genuine support lasts, timing matters, and when doors reopen, the moment can be even more powerful than originally imagined.
